Profile of the Department

The Department of Ophthalmology of Manila Doctors Hospital was born on January 1981.  Pioneers Dr. Romeo V. Fajardo and Dr. Romeo B. Espiritu patterned the program after the requirements of the Philippine Board of Ophthalmology. This "preceptor-based" program became the model for all other private training hospitals in the country.

Currently with 16 active consultants, 53 visiting consultants and 8 residents the department is rapidly expanding. Being the home of the Eye Instrument Center we are dedicated to the acquisition of the best ophthalmic equipments and the training of the best ophtha technicians.

Research is one of the main thrust of the department as it currently hosts one of the longest running post-graduate course in the Philippines. A number of first reported cases both in the national and international arena have also originated from us.
